Stanley Everton Caines, M. D. was born in St. Kitts and received his early education at the Basseterre Boys School and the St. Kitts Nevis Grammar School, later Basseterre High School. After immigrating to the United States, he pursued studies in biology and mathematics at York College, City University of New York where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. The Stigma Xi award was received for excellence in research. 

Later he studied at New York Medical College where he received his Doctor of Medicine. Dr. Caines specialized in Internal Medicine at the Harlem Hospital Center/ Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. Further sub – specialized in Cardiovascular Diseases at the Hartford Hospital Connecticut.

Dr. Caines was a Diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine. He was also employed with the Heart Center for Excellence as an Associate Cardiologist. Furthermore, he was an attending physician in the division of cardiology at the Borgess Medical Center, Kalamazoo, Michigan. Borgess Medical Center is listed as one of the top 100 hospitals in the United States for cardiovascular diseases.

As a clinical cardiologist, Dr. Caines was engaged in all aspects of cardiovascular medicine with expertise in cardiac and vascular ultrasound as well as nuclear cardiology

Dr. Caines was an accomplished musician and an avid pipe organ enthusiast. He served on many boards, was a patron with the American Ballet Theatre, a downhill skier and a member of many professional organizations.
